Why Every Entrepreneur Should Consider Starting a Podcast
| TL;DR: A podcast is more than a marketing strategy; it’s a business asset you own. It builds trust faster than social media, attracts qualified leads through SEO, and keeps working for you long after you hit publish. If you’re an entrepreneur who’s tired of chasing algorithms, this is worth considering. |
Many entrepreneurs think they need to become influencers to grow their business. But if you’re anything like me and creating daily social media content sounds exhausting and overwhelming, I am here to tell you there’s another way!
A podcast allows entrepreneurs to build authority, nurture trust, and market their business for years because it’s long-form content that doesn’t expire after 24 hours like a social media post.
Because podcasting is long-form content with no expiration date, it’s more than just a marketing strategy; it’s a business asset.
Here’s why.
You’re Not Building on Borrowed Land
First, let’s get right into why a podcast is a business asset, and it’s because you own your podcast. That means you are not building on borrowed land as you do on social media.
You don’t own your social media page, nor do you own your followers. Your social media page can disappear tomorrow, but your podcast? That’s yours. And it’s because you own the RSS Feed that distributes your show!
Think of your podcast like online real estate. That’s an asset!

A Podcast Builds Trust Faster Than Social Media Ever Will
On social media, people see your posts and videos for a few seconds. But with podcasting, you are spending 20 to 60 minutes in your audience’s ears. That’s intimate. Social media doesn’t do that.
While you are in their ears, they are listening to your personality, your energy, your vibe; they learn your values, and that intimacy builds trust.
You are earning their trust with each episode.
For example, a client started implementing an SEO strategy for her podcast, and within a few weeks, she reached out to tell me she had gained a new client for her group coaching program. She told me it felt like this client signed up out of nowhere, but when she asked her how she found her, the client said she found her podcast online and listened to a few episodes.
With each episode she listened to, she gained trust and realized my client was the right person to help solve her problem. That is the power of podcasting.
This example shows how people buy from people they trust, and podcasting accelerates that trust because listeners feel like they know you.
Your Podcast Becomes a Long-Term Marketing Asset
Social media trends change constantly, and often the algorithm doesn’t show my followers all my content. This is why I don’t follow social media trends, and I focus on long-form content instead.
Podcast episodes are long-form content, so that means:
- Episodes don’t disappear after 24 hours
- Episodes continue to show up on Google search
- Episodes are shown on Spotify and Apple Podcasts
- Since they are evergreen content, people can find them for years to come.
To get the most out of your podcast episodes, you can Repurpose Podcast Episodes into multiple pieces of content. For example:
- Blog Posts
- Newsletters
- Pinterest Pins
- LinkedIn Articles
- Posts Within Networking Groups
- Threads Posts

A Podcast Positions You as the Expert in Your Industry
As an entrepreneur, it’s best to start a solo podcast and add guests later. This way you can share your experience, skills, strategies, client wins, and case studies.
You can also engage your audience and have them ask you questions to answer on the show. Lastly, you can do live coaching sessions on your podcast to showcase your expertise.
Once you start adding guests to interview on your show, they become the experts. You can do that after you’ve established yourself as the expert in your industry.
Your Podcast Can Support Every Offer in Your Business
Let’s look at different business models and how a podcast can support them.
First, if you’re a coach:
- Share Client Success Stories
- Do Live Coaching (As mentioned above)
- Teach Your Framework
- Answer Questions
If you’re a consultant:
- Expand on Common Challenges
- Share Case Studies
- Discuss Industry Trends
Selling Digital Products:
- Teach The Concepts From Your Products
- Point Listeners to Templates, Guides, or Courses That Solve Their Problem
If You’re a Speaker or Author
- Expand on Ideas From Your Talks or Book – or Share BTS Content
- Build Your Platform and Audience
Your podcast supports your business; it doesn’t exist separately from it.

Podcasting Helps Build a Personal Brand That Actually Stands Out
One thing to keep in mind is that people remember stories more than a sales pitch. In your podcast episodes, it’s important to incorporate your journey, lessons learned, what worked and what didn’t, behind-the-scenes moments (this is my favorite to share), and your business values.
People connect to what is real, honest, and vulnerable. No one wants perfect because that doesn’t exist. And by sharing your story and journey, this will differentiate yourself from your competitors because no one else has your experiences and perspective.
That is what building a personal brand is all about, and podcasting can elevate that.

You Don’t Need a Huge Audience to See Results
One of the biggest myths people have about podcasting is that you need thousands of downloads to reach your goals. But nothing could be further from the truth. What you need is an engaged audience. People who take action.
A smaller engaged audience of your ideal clients has more value than a large audience that is not interested in buying.
I mean, think about it – if you have 100 downloads on one episode and 25 on another, but the episode that had 25 led to a client, which episode had more success?
People think that downloads are the only way to measure success in podcasting, but that’s not always the case.
Remember, quality over quantity applies here too.

Podcasting Is a Long-Term Visibility Strategy
I used to think that podcasting was for everyone, but the more I coach others on launching, the more I’ve realized that just like entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone, neither is podcasting. Podcasting and entrepreneurship both require patience. They are for those who focus on long-term success.
A podcast compounds over time; each episode is like a brick building your foundation. I like to use the Three Little Pigs analogy: podcasting is like building your house with bricks. It will stay solid, no matter what challenges or storms come your way.
Over time, podcasting builds the foundation with:
- Each Episode
- More Search Opportunities
- More Backlinks
- Stronger SEO Optimization
- Crediability
- Discoverability
- And eventually, AI recommendation
Unlike social media, your podcast library will continue to grow and work for your business even when you’re not actively promoting it.
FAQ: Podcasting for Entrepreneurs
Do I need to be on social media if I have a podcast?
No — and that’s honestly one of the biggest benefits. A podcast is a digital marketing strategy that doesn’t rely on social media algorithms. Your episodes show up in search results on Google, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. Social media can support your podcast, but your podcast doesn’t need social media to work.
How long before a podcast starts bringing in clients?
It depends on your niche, your SEO strategy, and how consistently you publish. Some entrepreneurs see results within a few months. Others take longer. The key is treating your podcast like a business from day one — with intention, not just content.
What kind of podcast should an entrepreneur start?
Start solo. Share your expertise, your client wins, your journey. Once you’ve established yourself as the expert, add guest interviews. Starting solo lets your audience get to know you first — and that’s what builds the trust that converts.
